Chevrolet 210, Red, for sale in Charlotte, North Carolina, for $27,995.
Great cars never go out of fashion, and if the collector car hobby is still alive and well 100 years from now, shoebox Chevys will undoubtedly still be highly desirable cars. That's particularly true about this gorgeous 1956 Chevy 210 post coupe with its fantastic cranberry and white paint job that puts a slightly modern spin on the classic shape. We can't tell you the original color because it was a special-order car according to the cowl tag, but perhaps it was something similar to what it's wearing today. However, if you look closely, you'll see that there's a bit of pearl in the finish, which gives the paint a deep luster and a cool color-changing effect that's been a favorite of customizers dating back decades. Restoring the chrome on any '50s car can be a daunting task as well, which is probably why so much of it disappears from some customs. But in the case of this coupe, it's all there and everything has been restored to very good condition. The bumpers are 1-piece units with bumperettes, and all the stainless spent its summer vacation under a buffing wheel. The effect is a super clean car that is just different enough to stand out in a crowd.
Like all the great customs we feature here at Streetside, this one merely puts a slight twist on the original, blending old and new almost invisibly to create something unique. The seats, for example, are original but covered in a gray tweed fabric that's comfortable and breathes worlds better than the original vinyl-talk about sticky! Matching dark gray carpets add continuity, while the body-colored dash injects some color to the otherwise monochromatic compartment. The original gauges remain, but upgrades include an AM/FM/cassette stereo system and a leather-wrapped billet steering wheel atop a tilt column. A powerful A/C system has been discreetly tucked under the dash, along with a set of auxiliary gauges that are well camouflaged. The trunk is upholstered with matching materials and includes a pair of subwoofers that fill the car with crystal clear sound.
Power comes from a great-running 350 topped with a Carter AFB 4-barrel and exhaling through a set of shorty headers. More function than flash, there are still some highlights including Heartbeat air cleaner and valve covers, as well as chrome accessories. This one will never lose its cool, either, thanks to a set of powerful electric fans, including a massive pusher that keeps air moving over the A/C condenser and maintains a chilly atmosphere inside. The transmission is a 700R4 4-speed automatic that makes for sharp acceleration and relaxed highway cruising. An older dual exhaust system shows some recent work, and it rides on classic chrome Torque Thrusts and 225/70/15 front and 235/70/15 rear tires.
