Series 40/Special Buick Special 4 Dr Sedan, for sale in Volo, Illinois, for $18,900.
The Special series ushered in a new era of styling for Buick. Nicknamed the "Torpedo", these new bodies built on the success of the streamlined Turret bodies Cadillac developed for it's wildly popular Series 60 Special and Series 62. Virtually gone were the 30's body style trappings. Running boards, outboard lamp ensembles and trunks had been abandonded to emphasize a sleek profile. The last year which outboard spare tires where offered was 1940, same year of this model's introduction. Inside, the Buick Special was deceptively large. The
change to a column mounted shift allowed seating for six. The Fireball Straight Eight engine was economical which made this model an obvious choice for thrifty American families.
The attractive Torpedo Special offered here is an older restoration that continues to look good. Paint finish is glossy with minor blemishes. The chrome Art Deco grille looks bright with some patina. The interior features Tan Bedford cloth and the signature bold Buick dashboard, just minor wear on fabric. Engine and mechanicals run good and the car handles with confidence. A wonderful Four Door just right for the avid vintage car driver with plenty of room for family and friends. Complete video of this vehicle available.
