BMW Isetta 300, for sale in Volo, Illinois, for $26,900.
Very few collector cars have made a comeback into pop culture like the BMW Isetta. This prolific European microcar has made appearances in numerous TV shows, feature films, and music videos. The Isetta was originally designed by an Italian manufacturer by the same name, and liscenced to several European automakers including BMW. The famous German carmaker took the original design and adaped it to Germany's strict motoring laws, which required no less than a 300cc engine in any vehicle classified as an automobile. In 1956 BMW introduced the Isetta 300 to the German market and it became an enduring success thereafter, with sales exceeding well over 100,000 during it's production run up to 1962.
The Isetta design exhibits several features unique to it's design and engineering, including a single, front-opening door which also serves as it's dashboard. When opened the steering wheel remains coupled to the door by a universal joint. In the event of a front impact, the driver can exit through a roll-up cloth hatch which doubles as a sunroof. The Isetta is powered by a 300 c. c. single cylinder, 2-stroke motor producing 13 horsepower. The single bench seat has enough room for an additional passenger.
The BMW Isetta featured here at our showroom arrives in excellent condition with glossy red paint and bright chrome. Windows are clear and upholstery has been recently refurbished. This peppy microcar runs and drives well, with consideration for it's rated top speed is around 45 m. p. h. Among the BMW Isettas we've seen circulating in collector circles, this one is exceptional. A unique and fun addition to anyone's car collection or the ideal centerpiece for a fan of mid-century European Microcars. Complete video of this vehicle available.
