After winning the design award at the 1952 Earl’s Court motor show, Healey joined forces with Austin to create a brand new sports car. By the end of the decade, Austin-Healeys had become very popular in America as a result of their reasonable price and attractive appearance, coupled with a tough and well-proven engine. Powered by an engine enlarged from 2,639cc to 2,912cc, the 3000 was an immediate success – both commercially and in competition. While other manufacturers attempted to compete with their own versions based after the early marques, the Austin-Healeys were in a class by themselves.

The 3000 MKI offered here is an excellent candidate for those seeking a solid driver-quality example of a desirable “Big Healey”. Largely original overall, it is a nicely equipped example with wire wheels, overdrive, adjustable steering column, and heater.

Later additions to this car include an older paint respray in the correct hue, newer carpeting, a discrete amperes gauge and AM/FM Radio; the original side curtains and weather equipment were replaced with new. As with any older preserved driver, the MKI displays evidence of age and cosmetic wear, but certainly remains well suited for tours and weekend driving.
