Auburn Boattail Speedster, for sale in Volo, Illinois, for $49,900.
One of icon designer, Gordon Buehrig's most famous creation was the 1936 Auburn Boatail speedster. The car was created to capture the press at the New York auto show. The original car was fitted with an "L" head lycombing engine and a supercharger with chrome external exhaust pipes. Each car was to have exceeded a speed in excess of 100 mph befored delivered. Ab Jenkins ran many of these cars on the Salt Flats to attain the speed. This body style was so radical and so romantically beautiful with its airplane type fuselage and pontoon fenders that a second generation series was created with complete modern drive train with the powerful 455 GSX engine, automatic trans, power steering and power brakes, and more. This new version was factory built in 1980 by Antique Autos of America in Largo, Florida. The car enjoyed a complete recent tune and restoration. The flame red paint is mirror finish and clad on a laser straight car. The interior is black leather, and all chrome and glass are show quality. This car gives the fortunate owner the best of both worlds, the old classic body with complete modern drive train. This one goes like a rocket and drives wonderful.
