About DBS

Top

The classic Aston Martin DBS is best known as the car driven by James Bond in the film, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". This streamlined coupe still inspires hundreds of collectors to seek out and restore any vehicles they can find. Aston Martin is known for producing luxurious sports cars that fit the needs of high profile buyers. The company has been designing cars that have become instant classics since its founding in 1913.

The first Aston Martin DBS

The designers at Aston Martin set out to create a successor to the popular DB6 in the late 1960s. The first DBS rolled off the assembly line in 1967, although the DB6 was not discontinued for another three years. The new design accommodated more passengers with four seats and a larger cabin. A 282 horsepower engine was originally used in the DBS, but buyers could request a 325 horsepower system in its place for no extra cost. An Italian carburetor helped boost the optional engine power and top speed.

One goal of the DBS model was to update the classic Aston Martin style. Many original exterior features were used, including the side vents and the bonnet scoop. The grille was far more squared than previous models and a sloping rear made this vehicle one of the most attractive 1960s sports cars. This combination of classic and modern styling helped the Aston Martin DBS appear in numerous movies and television shows during the era.

The redesigned DBS

Aston Martin discontinued production of this model in 1972. The newer DBS V8 model was selling better at the time and had more features. The Vantage also helped push the original DBS out of circulation. In 2007, Aston Martin decided to bring the DBS back in a different package. The DBS V12 is built on the platform of the DB9 racecar. The hood and front panels feature large air scoops and the vehicle has a top speed of 191 miles per hour. This model was used in both "Quantum of Solace" and "Casino Royale", continuing the Aston Martin link to movies about James Bond.
