Aston Martin DB5 Coupe, Silver, for sale in La Jolla, California, price on application.

Background: The DB5 is likely the most famous Aston Martin produced because of the specially equipped "Silve-Birch" example that starred in the James Bond films, "Goldfinger" and "Thunderball". The DB5 made a comeback to the big screen in the 1995 film "GoldenEye" as well as a decade later in the remake of Casino Royal. The car's starring role will soon come to light again, when she will be fully featured in the upcoming Bond film "Skyfall" due to be released later this year.

Regarded by many as the most beautiful Aston Martin produced, the DB5 shares many similar traits to the earlier DB4. The DB5’s most substantial change occurred under the bonnet where the six-cylinder engine increased its capacity out to a full 4-litres by increasing the bore to 96mm. Significant too was the introduction of a true full synchromesh "ZF" 5-speed gearbox that was a significant improvement over the compromising four-speed of the earlier DB4 series cars. Other chassis changes included the adoption of the Girling disc brakes at all four corners that had previously only been used on the DB4GT variants, along with stronger and improved 15” quick-change, wire wheels.

DB5/1855/R: This particular DB5 was ordered new by Lakeside and Llandough Developments Company Limited (Kristin House, Hertfordshire, Watrford, East Anglia, UK WD17 4WB) a prominent property development company founded in the Spring of 1960. This firm still remains in business to this day. They were originally located just a bit north-west of London, between the M25 and M1. The modern headquarters of the company are now located further outside London in Surrey. This Aston left the Newport Pagnell Factory in the very "period" color combination of "Autumn Gold" with a deeply rich "red" full-Connolly leather interior. By all accounts, this Aston lived a rather quiet "corporate" life until by 1990, having covered just over 20,000 original miles, this spectacular example was acquired by a prominent Japanese private collection. A thorough reconditioning and respray to more traditional "Silver Birch" better suited this original "right-hand-drive" example, while the red-leather interior remains "day" one original and meticulously preserved and cared for since leaving the Aston Factory more than 45 years ago! This is an all "matching-numbers" example with out rust or accident damage and no known faults or issues. All are welcome to contact me for additional details, information and photos of this delightful and charming machine.
