AMC Rebel, for sale in Charlotte, North Carolina, for $23,995.

Finally getting some respect is this beautiful 1968 AMC Rebel 770 - 2-door hardtop finished in Matador Red with a stunning black cloth interior with red piping. This numbers matching 343cid - 4bbl - V8 engine produces 235hp and is mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission. The paint and body are in excellent condition. This beauty is nicely equipped with power steering, loop carpeting, floor mats, reclining seats, air conditioning, performance exhaust with chrome tips and much more. The power train, including the transmission was just re-built 1000 miles ago and had the Kenosha Wisconsin factory had the following components in their parts bin in 1968, they probably would have used them. Some of which include chrome Edlebrock air cleaner, Holly 650cfm carburetor, a RV camshaft, 15 chrome Keystone wheels, a Pioneer AM/FM/CD player, neatly placed in the glove compartment, air shocks and much more. Tires remain the stock size of BFG235/70R15, both front and rear.

In 1968 the name Rambler was dropped from the car nameplate and the AMC Rebel name was all that was used to identify the Rebel. In 1967, the Rebel was completely re-designed and considered the 5th generation. It was bigger and rode on a longer wheelbase, which allowed more interior room and a larger cargo capacity. The new design included a sweeping fastback roofline with more glass area. Door handles were changed from the old push button design to the newly flush mounted paddle style. This particular car is a rare find. Of the 4420 copies produced only 382 were fitted with a 343cid motor in 1968. This car was built to go. This is a bold reminder that the tiny AMC once took on the big boys on the street, the drag strip and they won. Just ask a NHRA gear head and he will be quick to tell you how Grant Industries built race versions and how proud they were. Motor Trend once said that This radical Rebel machine with its hood scoop, 'larger than a mail box' - places it among the most controversially styled cars of the era, and has a strong following, even today. Fit and finish are excellent.

This car was sold new in Atlanta, GA and was fully restored in 2008. It is well documented with restoration photos, original owner's manual, an old Georgia title, original repair manuals & receipts and much more. This is a very straight body with good tight body panels. You will more than likely be the only AMC owner at the local cruise in and car shows. It is a rare car and does a fine job expressing the muscle car era of the 60's. Where else can you get this much classic American iron for this little money? All the rubber is fresh and ready for a drive in the mountains or city streets. A Streetside Classic sales associate will be glad to walk you around this car.
