Alfa Romeo Montreal, for sale in Monterey, California, for $52,500.

Originally exhibited at the 1967 Montreal Expo, the Bertone Styled, two-seater Montreal coupe debuted at the Geneva Salon in 1970. Unlike the Expo prototype that used Alfas 1.6-liter twin-cam four-cylinder engine, the production Montreal used a "civilized" 2593cc version of the T33 sports racers four-cam V8.

Air vents behind the doors suggested a mid-engine layout like the T33s, but as installed in the Montreal the dry-sumped engine was front-mounted and drove the rear wheels via a five-speed ZF gearbox. Detuned for road use, this superb, race-pedigreed power unit produced 200 hp at 6,500 rpm courtesy of electronic ignition and Spica mechanical fuel injection.

The Montreals running gear consists of independent front suspension and a live rear axle, plus disc brakes all around. A great performing automobile, the Montreal was good for a top speed of 137 mph and, in spite of a hefty price tag, proved very popular in its day.

This Alfa Romeo is Engine # AR00564*00588.

This example comes out of a private collection. Previously owned by a past president of the AROC Arizona region. The car is finished in red with black interior.
